Authorities are looking for a man on the Central Coast they say threatened police with a knife, and a homemade explosive device.  Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Foothill Boulevard in San Luis Obispo Sunday night by reports of a disturbance.   Some residents of an apartment complex report a man was banging on their doors and trying to break into their homes.

Police are trying to figure out who was responsible for a vandalism spree in a Central Coast City which left 17 vehicles damaged.

San Luis Obispo Police began receiving calls Saturday morning about tires being slashed in four neighborhoods.  16 vehicles had slashed tires, and the vandals also knocked down a motorcycle.

The vandals also damaged a tree which was recently planted by the city.  Officers have been looking for possible witnesses and surveillance video of the incidents which occurred late Friday or early Saturday.

Authorities on the Central Coast are trying to figure out what led to the mysterious death of a woman. Police and paramedics were called to the 4400 block of Poinsettia Street in San Luis Obispo early Saturday morning by reports of an unconscious woman on the sidewalk. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.

The owner of an elder care facility on the Central Coast has been sentenced to jail following the death of a patient.

The California Attorney General’s Office says Christopher Skiff, the owner of the Manse on Marsh Residential Care Facility for the Elderly in San Luis Obispo, was convicted of elder abuse and involuntary manslaughter.

A new survey says the most expensive place in the country for people retiring to buy a home is on the Central Coast.

The website Realtor.com reports the median home price in San Luis Obispo is $729,000.

The holiday season is moving into high gear this coming weekend, with a number of theme events planned on the Central and South Coasts.

More than 65,000 people are expected to be on hand for the 65th Annual Downtown Santa Barbara Holiday Parade. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday on State Street, and travels from Sola to Cota Streets.

A Special Forces soldier from the Central Coast has died in Afghanistan, following what the Department of Defense is calling a non-combat related incident.

Sgt. 1st Class Robert R. Boniface died Sunday in Logar Province, Afghanistan. Pentagon officials say the incident is under investigation. No other details of the 34 year old man’s death were released.

The soldier from San Luis Obispo was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group headquartered at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

A screening of a documentary about Debby Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher will be one of the highlights of the 23rd annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, which has just announced its 2017 lineup.

This year’s festival runs March 14th through 19th.

A warning has been issued following a rash of vehicle vandalisms, and burglaries on the Central Coast.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies say at least eight vehicles have been targeted in the Los Osos area in the last week.

In most cases, the victims had left items of apparent value in plain view. Investigators say the burglaries often involved vehicle windows being broken, even in some cases where the doors were unlocked.

A Central Coast city is offering a new app which it hopes will help save the lives of people in cardiac arrest.

The San Luis Obispo Fire Department is participating in the PulsePoint mobile phone app program. The app is integrated with the 911 system, and notifies CPR trained people with the app that there is someone close by who has a critical need for help. It also shows the location of the closest public Automated External Defibrillator.

SLO HotHouse

There’s renewed effort to encourage innovators and entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses in a particular area on the Central Coast. 

Cal Poly’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship runs the SLO HotHouse, a collaborative effort with the county, city and local business community aimed at building a startup culture in San Luis Obispo County.

For six years, it has helped students start their own businesses. Now, with its new 15,000-square-foot location in downtown San Luis Obispo, the SLO HotHouse will also be a place for members of the community to grow their startups.

It’s been more than 20 years since a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo coed disappeared.

Now, a new search is underway in San Luis Obispo County for the remains of Kristin Smart, with officials saying they’ve developed additional evidence in the case. More than 40 law enforcement personnel are involved in this week’s effort.

An experimental program on the Central Coast intended to reduce panhandling by setting up donation stations for people who want to help is getting ready to present its second check to a social service agency.
