  • Have you ever wondered what performers do to prepare for a performance in front of a live audience before the actual day of performance?

There’s a lot more to the naked eye than you might think!

Performing artists presented in this workshop will work out their performance skills in front of you as you receive the privilege of witnessing the kinds of techniques that go into presenting a more professional, believable & entertaining performance.

Each artist will perform a song, then receive suggestions and recommendations from the award winning music teacher and performer, Jodi Farrell (jodifarrell.com), on how to improve his or her performance. After the coaching, they will get to perform their song again and work on implementing the suggested techniques, gaining a truly “in the moment” experience of honing their performance skills in front of a live audience.

Backed by a powerhouse band that includes Maitland Ward (Jeffrey Osborne) on guitar, Mychal Lomas on bass, and Alvino Bennett (Dave Mason) on drums, George & Michael Band deliver more than a setlist. They deliver an experience that’s honest, unhurried, and full of connection.

  • The Carpinteria Valley Museum of History kicks off its Talk & Talkback Speaker Series on Wednesday, May 27th at the Alcazar Theatre with a free film screening at 6 p.m. and a short panel discussion afterward. Following the success of last year’s series, the Museum looks to bring new voices, under-told stories, and ample time for talkback to the 2026 lineup.

A 45-minute cut of the Museum’s grant-funded documentary film, “Our Faces Will Always Be Japanese”: Civil Liberties Stories From Carpinteria will be followed by a 30-minute panel discussion with filmmaker Brent Winebrenner and film participants Tommy Dyo and John Fukasawa, Jr. The film explores the WWII era in Carpinteria with a focus on Japanese internment, as well as pre- and post-war Carpinteria cultural/social dynamics. Family-related remembrances of the war period and reflections on the legacy of Japanese internment will be the focus of the panel discussion.
