This month, we’re celebrating Earth Month with hands-on workshops that transform everyday recycled materials into artful treasures. Perfect for all ages and skill levels, these eco-friendly projects encourage kids to craft with purpose while having a blast.
Craft for the Earth Projects include:🌎 Paper Bead Bracelets – Roll, glue, and string colorful paper beads to create stylish, upcycled jewelry.🌱 eARTh Collages – Turn scrap paper, magazines, and tabs into stunning Earth-inspired collages that celebrate the beauty of our planet.🐞 Recycled Litter Bugs – Give discarded materials a second life by crafting whimsical bug sculptures using bottle caps, bread tags, and more!Come craft, create, and celebrate Earth Month with us! Perfect for all ages and skill levels, these eco-friendly projects encourage kids to craft purposefully while having a blast.Craft for the Earth Projects include:Jack & Jill Jumpers – Craft classic pull-string jumping jack toys using reclaimed paper and brads—watch their arms and legs spring to life with a tug!Marionettes – Create your own characterful puppets using upcycled materials, string, and imagination—then bring them to life with a tug of a string!Upcycled Aviators – Build playful airplanes from repurposed bits and bobs, and let your creativity take flight!Come craft and create with us! To celebrate our 30th anniversary, the Ventura Music Festival is teaming up with the City of Ventura and the Downtown Ventura Partners to throw an unforgettable, free, all-day music festival celebrating Southern California talent and culture. Join us for the Spring Music Festival, happening Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 12 PM to 9 PM in the heart of the Downtown Ventura Cultural District. This event is open to all and promises a joyful springtime experience packed with live music, art, food, and family-friendly activities. Come early for the Ventura Farmers Market from 8:30 am to noon near Mission Park where the music festival on three stages begins. Joining the exciting “Black History [every] Month” 2025 line up is Vasthy Mompoint’s fabulous interactive afternoon of fun.
"Sesame Street" meets Broadway...Mr. Rogers meets musical theater...music, dance, poetry, and fun for the whole family (including grown-ups!) Your hostess, eight-time Broadway actress (The Prom, Spongebob, Mary Poppins) Vasthy Mompoint, will take you on a musical theater adventure combining live performance with virtual production for kids to engage with the arts in a way like no other. Get ready to sing, dance, and play. Vasthy says, “We promise you will leave with a smile on your face.”

The Santa Monica Playhouse Black History [every] Month Project presents African-American theatrical creations not just in February, but throughout the year, recognizing, honoring and celebrating the rich heritage of Black arts, artists, and culture in our community.
Santa Monica Playhouse programs are supported in part by generous grants from the We Are Santa Monica Fund, the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the Ahmanson Foundation and Playhouse PALS.

Tasty treats have a strawberry twist at the 39th Annual California Strawberry Festival, Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds (10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura, CA 93001). Strawberry-themed nachos, chocolate-dipped strawberries, strawberry kabobs, popcorn, and margaritas are just a few of the choices. The festival also features 150 artists and crafters, a Strawberryland for kids, live entertainment on three stages, carnival rides, and a "build-your-own" strawberry shortcake experience.
Trays of freshly picked, vine-ripened strawberries are available at the festival and used in festival strawberry-themed foods. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. both days. General admission is $15, active military with ID and family and seniors 62 and over, $10, youth ages 5 to 12, $8 and children 4 and under are free. Limited parking onsite. Visitors are encouraged to use the free shuttle service nearby or take advantage of the Ventura Amtrak Station across the street. For more information, go to www.CAStrawberryFestival.org.
