Explore with July Crafternoons: Nature Nurturers!Let your imagination go wild every Wednesday from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the EE Makerspace above Art From Scrap.
This month, we're making waves with eco-friendly explorer-themed crafts that spark creativity and celebrate sustainability. Perfect for kids ages 5 and up, these projects use reclaimed materials in fun and surprising ways.
Nature Nurturer Projects include:Explorer Binoculars – Any seasoned explorer knows that binoculars are an excellent way to observe nature, so make your own with cardboard tubes, beads, and other recycled materials!Field Notebooks – Using cardboard, recycled paper, and creative reuse decorations, you can create your very own scientific field notebook, perfect for any nature walk. Litter Bugs – We've got crazy crawlers in the Makerspace, so make your own litter bug with recycled materials that create new critters and keep scraps out of our landfills.
There's something for everyone at Crafternoons. Come craft, create, and explore the world with us!
Cost: $8.00 per person. Crafternoons are for kids ages 5 and up.
Please note our workshop is upstairs and uses hot glue guns. Adults must remain in the EE Makerspace with their child.

Yarn Buddies is a welcoming crochet and knitting circle held at the Explore Ecology Makerspace! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just beginning your fiber arts journey, our monthly club is the perfect space to bring your projects to life.
We invite you to drop in with your most recent project and fiber arts questions every month. Our knowledgeable staff will be there to offer any tips and tricks to help bring your project to life. The Makerspace will provide crochet hooks, knitting needles, stitch counters, and yarn that participants can borrow and even leave with their ball of yarn each month.

Learn how to transform reclaimed beads, chains, charms, and other found materials into one-of-a-kind earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners and seasoned makers alike who want to craft stylish accessories with a sustainable twist. All supplies are included, and you’ll leave with several handmade pieces.

Learn the art of neighborhood sustainability and imagination! In this brand-new offering of kids' programming, we are collaborating with Guest Artist Gemma Cooper to create native flower seed bombs and garden collages. Through this event, children will learn about local flowers and plants in the Santa Barbara area and use recycled paper to create seed bombs to share in their neighborhood. In a reflection project, kids will also use reclaimed materials to create collages that explore what their dream garden would look like. All materials are provided, and children will leave with several seed bombs and a collage they have made. Ages 5+
