It’s billed as a “Community Concert,” but not many communities could bring together an orchestra of some of the country’s most promising music students to perform under one of the most acclaimed conductors. At Santa Barbara’s Granada Theater, the young musicians have been rehearsing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Gustavo Dudamel for Saturday night's Music Academy of the West Community Concert.

We’re learning more about a collision on the South Coast that killed a young boy, injured three others and caused a gasoline spill.

The California Highway Patrol says it happened just before 8 am Friday at Highway 118 at Balcom Canyon Road in Moorpark. Authorities say Veronica Viveros of Somis, who was driving with her two children, was making a left turn from southbound Balcom onto the eastbound 118 when she collided with a double tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of gas.

Two military aircraft from the South Coast are playing an important role in the battles against some of the state’s biggest wildfires.

The C-130J Air National Guard cargo planes based in Ventura County have special modular components which allow them to be used as firefighting air tankers.

Chakrabarti And Folkenflik Will Be New ‘On Point’ Hosts

Weekday talk show On Point, which KCLU presents at 9 a.m., will hit the reset button with two new hosts. Meghna Chakrabarti will host Monday through Thursday, and David Folkenflik will host on Friday.

It's big.

The five remaining candidates for the Republican presidential nomination meet tonight in Houston, Texas, the biggest city in the biggest state holding a primary on March 1, which is Super Tuesday, which is the biggest voting day so far in 2016 – and the biggest all year besides election day in November.

Whoever prevails tonight gets a long leg up toward being the biggest vote-getter on Tuesday. And whoever sits on top after Tuesday is going to be increasingly hard to deny.

"I love Messi and my shirt says Messi loves me," says Murtaza Ahmadi, the 5-year-old whose image became a sensation when he was seen wearing a homemade Lionel Messi jersey made from a blue-striped plastic bag. The boy got the genuine article today, part of a package from the soccer star who's also a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

Texas is one of 12 states voting on "Super Tuesday" next week, but Republicans there are a little nervous about this year's election.

Less than two years ago, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, won 48 percent of the Hispanic vote during his re-election.

However, in an election season dominated by calls from GOP presidential candidates such as Donald Trump and Ted Cruz to build a wall with Mexico and deport every immigrant who's in the country illegally, some Texas Republicans fear years of outreach is being undone if either man becomes the party's nominee.

As winter starts to wind down, you may be stepping up your plans for a spring-break trip.

But have you checked airfares lately?

If you haven't looked since Christmas, you may be in for a surprise: Many fares are up. In fact, the largest U.S. carriers have nudged rates higher three times in recent weeks.

Farecompare.com, a fare tracking website, says airlines are charging $22 more for round-trip flights this year. Most of the hikes are hitting smaller cities and less competitive markets.
