  • FREE EVENT! Pre-event music with Juan Mendoza and bar will start at 2 pm. Event formally starts at 3 pm. Mariposas del Campo, an award-winning film by Bill Yahraus and Robin Rosenthal, shares the stories of indigenous Mixtec, Zapotec, and Purépecha teenagers from Mexico striving to change their families’ destinies in the strawberry fields of Oxnard, California. The documentary captures their journeys—with help from the characters’ own intimate videos—as they navigate cultural identity, parental expectations, economic challenges, and the justice needs of their migrant farmworker community. For young people whose lives have always been steeped in uncertainty, it takes a leap of faith to chase a dream. Register at https://venturamuseum.org/event/mariposas-del-campo-documentary-screening/. Interpretation provided: English to Spanish by Amada Irma Perez. English to Mixteco by MICOP. Sponsored by the Latino Advisory Committee, Oxnard Film Society, and MICOP (Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project) Proof of vaccination will be required on arrival for in-person attendees over 12 years of age. Masks will not be required for this event. If you would like a mask, we’re happy to provide one for you.

Haws will discuss how to recognize, address and avoid bullying and abusive conduct in the workplace. Topics include workplace training requirements for management and staff, responding to and investigating employee complaints of bullying and what to include in anti-bullying policies.
