  • Presented by the Ventura County Astronomical Society
    at the Moorpark College Forum

Our speaker for Friday November 18th at 7:30 PM is Victor Jimenez, the Telescope and Astro-imaging Specialist at Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope. His topic is ”Amateur Telescopes and Equipment: Beginning and Advanced” and will be timeless because many VCAS members are planning on purchasing a first time telescope during the holidays. Also, some advanced amateur astronomers want to know what new equipment is available in our hobby.

Mr. Jimenez has been doing astrophotography for over 5 years and has been interested in this hobby for 30 years. His first taste of astrophotography started with a Nexstar 4se and a modified web camera to do planetary work. Then Victor acquired a Canon t5i that was modified for astrophotography and it was rewarding, giving some of his best work. A major game changer was transitioning over to a dedicated astronomy camera and adding a standalone wifi connected control system. Victor enjoys pushing the boundaries to help both backyard amateurs as well as universities in making their systems efficient and making the users proficient. With a willingness to learn and a lot of patience anyone can get into this field and take home a part of the night sky for themselves.
