Do you have a gun that you inherited or just no longer want or need?
Ventura County Sheriff’s office is hosting a firearm turn-in this week.
Senior Deputy Mike Baker says the County Sheriff’s gun-turn in is designed to eliminate the risk of mishandling, negligent discharge or those guns ending up in the wrong hands.
"Let's say a family member has a gun from the 1950s and it's in the house bequeathed when they passed on. If you're not a gun owner or gun fanatic then you have this gun in the house and you're like, 'What do I do with it?'" he explained to KCLU.
"Bring it over to the Sheriff's Department and you can turn the gun in, no questions asked as to its history, origin or the reasons why you have it. That way somebody doesn't have their house broken into in the middle of the night or when they're on vacation and we don't have guns out there on the street," Baker said.
The turn-in is on Wednesday afternoon, at Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Fillmore and Ventura Stations and the County Sheriff’s Headquarters in Ventura.
