Santa Barbara County Expects Record Turnout As Ballot Count Nears Completion

With 40,000 more ballots counted since the start of the election on November 3, Santa Barbara County is not seeing any major shifts in its election results.

Instead, what it is seeing is the possibility of a record voter turnout above 90%.

Registrar of Voters Joe Holland says that 197,000 ballots have been counted so far, which is an 84% turnout, and they still have around 18,000 more ballots to run through the system.

These ballots include ones dropped off by voters in a vote-by-mail box on election day or sent through the Postal Service, as well as ones brought in-person or filled out on election day.

All those ballots still have to have their signatures verified before they can be officially accepted.

The elections office also does outreach to voters if their ballot has an issue with the signature or some other aspect of their vote in ballot.
