A band is playing on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.  Hundreds of people walk up and down the street.  It’s dusk, and business is booming at some restaurants on the 500 block of State Street.

Santa Barbara is trying to help restaurants which have been hard hit by the coronvirus crisis by allowing them to move tables outdoors. 

As a part of the move, much of State Street has been closed to traffic so tables can be moved onto sidewalks, and into the street.

The largest store in downtown Santa Barbara is set to close permanently, as part of a coronavirus-triggered restructuring by the chain that runs it.

Clothing retailer Nordstrom is closing 16 of its 117 full line department stores, including its longtime store in the Paseo Nuevo shopping center.  The stores have been closed by the coronavirus shutdown since mid-March.
