Imagine your phone telling you if you have a bacterial infection. There’s now a tool designed for clinics, hospitals and doctor’s offices that can do just that. UC Santa Barbara researchers developed a smartphone app that allows users to detect bacteria at a low cost in under an hour, which can be life-saving.

There’s a new program in Santa Barbara County that’s helping homeless people recover after leaving the hospital.

Cottage Health has partnered with PATH Santa Barbara – an organization aimed at ending homelessness -- to launch the Cottage Recuperative Care Program.

It’s the time of year when many of us are taking little spring vacations. Kyle Fleher who’s a critical care nurse at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, just took two weeks off from his job, but used them in a very special way. He volunteered at a front line medical aid station in war torn Mosul, Iraq.

Two trucks were involved in a head on collision Wednesday on Highway 154 on Figueroa Mountain Road, closing that section of San Marcos Pass in Los Olivos.

One vehicle was a pickup, the other was a large tractor-trailer beer truck.

Eyewitnesses say the person in the pickup was driving erratically, in and out of the appropriate lane, prior to the accident.

The snake bit him instead.
