Central Coast Freeway Reopened After Two Trucks Have Head-On Collision

Two trucks were involved in a head on collision Wednesday on Highway 154 on Figueroa Mountain Road, closing that section of San Marcos Pass in Los Olivos.

One vehicle was a pickup, the other was a large tractor-trailer beer truck.

Eyewitnesses say the person in the pickup was driving erratically, in and out of the appropriate lane, prior to the accident.

Some drivers on the highway had already called 911 prior to the collision.

The driver of the pickup had major injuries and was airlifted out to Santa Barbara's Cottage Hospital.

The big-rig was disabled and an extended road closure took place for the clean up and to allow a heavy-duty tow to come in.

The two occupants of the larger truck were not seriously hurt.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating to see if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.
