Fifty and Better FREE lecture: Discovering Conejo Valley
In this lecture, we will take a look at photos and will review the archaeological history of the Conejo Valley beginning with the Chumash era, delving into the Spanish then Mexican periods, and then through pioneers arriving in the 1870s. We will also go into detail about some of the families that were here long term. This lecture will mostly focus on the Conejo Valley pre-1900.
Carol Anderson has a background in secretarial and archival work. She has been a volunteer in several capacities at the Stagecoach Inn Museum for 32 years. She is one of only six people to have been Curator of History at the museum since the Conejo Valley Historical Society formed in 1964.
Fifty and Better was designed to offer university-level courses and lectures (no tests, no homework) taught by experts in the field, and to host social engagement activities for people age 50 and older.

And Peace on Earth Choral and Orchestral Concert
The Santa Ynez Valley Chorale is excited to present a holiday concert, And Peace on Earth , Saturday, December 3rd at 3 P.M., and Sunday, December 4th at 3 P.M. at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 1745 Mission Drive, in Solvang.
The Chorale is delighted to bring you a beautiful and moving concert with orchestra accompaniment under the expert direction of our new Artistic Director, David L. Torres. Torres has been able to breathe new life into the Chorale with his musical talents and pedagogical skills. He has selected some inspirational music for this hour-long performance. Pieces such as The Hands That First Held Mary’s Child and Lunar Lullaby will touch your heart. The audience may also give into their Christmas spirit by joining us to sing some familiar Christmas carols.
So, take a break between the parades and tree lightings to relax in the Veteran’s Memorial Hall to listen to music from the heart.
Tickets are $15 at the Book Loft or at the door. They can also be purchased at the Chorale’s website, www.syvchorale.org with a slight processing charge.

A Holiday Guide for 1st-Time Telescope Buyers
Presented by the Ventura County Astronomical Society
at the Moorpark College Forum
Our speaker for Friday November 18th at 7:30 PM is Victor Jimenez, the Telescope and Astro-imaging Specialist at Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope. His topic is ”Amateur Telescopes and Equipment: Beginning and Advanced” and will be timeless because many VCAS members are planning on purchasing a first time telescope during the holidays. Also, some advanced amateur astronomers want to know what new equipment is available in our hobby.
Mr. Jimenez has been doing astrophotography for over 5 years and has been interested in this hobby for 30 years. His first taste of astrophotography started with a Nexstar 4se and a modified web camera to do planetary work. Then Victor acquired a Canon t5i that was modified for astrophotography and it was rewarding, giving some of his best work. A major game changer was transitioning over to a dedicated astronomy camera and adding a standalone wifi connected control system. Victor enjoys pushing the boundaries to help both backyard amateurs as well as universities in making their systems efficient and making the users proficient. With a willingness to learn and a lot of patience anyone can get into this field and take home a part of the night sky for themselves.
