The South Coast could become home to some of the most unique new rustic overnight cottages in the country.
Picture this: staying on an island with beautiful trees, rolling hills, a coastal lagoon, and of course panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
The idea is to add the first cottage or cabin style accommodations in the Channel Islands.
You can currently camp on Santa Rosa Island, but the hope is to add overnight accommodations.
Ethan McKinley is Superintendent of Channel Islands National Park. He says the idea is to use the already refurbished Main Ranch on Santa Rosa Island. It has some rooms which could be used by visitors, as well as a commercial-style kitchen.
The idea is to find a vendor who would also convert a bunkhouse area into more overnight accommodations, as well as managing campground areas.
But, don’t pack your bags just yet. The Park Service is just looking for proposals now, with a goal of having facilities open in 2024.
