KCLU Honored With Regional Edward R. Murrow Award For Coverage Of Ventura County Wildfire

KCLU won a 2020 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for its coverage of Ventura County's Maria brush fire.

KCLU has been honored by the National Radio Television Digital News Association with a 2020 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for its coverage of the Maria Wildfire in Ventura County.

The October 2019 blaze forced thousands of evacuations as it threatened communities like Camarillo and Santa Paula.

KCLU provided live, on scene coverage the night the fire started, and in-depth reporting for the next three days until the threat eased.

The coverage came as the station was just wrapping up days of live coverage of another wildfire, Simi Valley's Easy brush fire.

KCLU was honored with a small market Regional Murrow for "Best Breaking News Coverage" in Division 2, which includes California and Hawaii.

KCLU has won more than 25 Regional Murrow Awards, as well as one national Edward R. Murrow Award.
