KCLU Wins Three Murrow Awards

KCLU AM/FM, the NPR radio station serving Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, has won three prestigious 2018 Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for its local news reporting from the national Radio Television Digital News Association.

KCLU News Director Lance Orozco won a Regional Murrow in the “Best Continuing Coverage” category for his live field reports during the destructive Thomas brush fire in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

KCLU Anchor and Reporter Debra Green won a Regional Murrow for “Feature Reporting,” for “Preschoolers Learn About Science Through Gardening,” a story about some Santa Barbara County kids getting hands-on science experience.

And, KCLU won a third Regional Murrow in the category of “Hard News,” for “A Mother’s Pain,” a look at the opiod crisis in Ventura County through the eyes of a mother who lost her son to it.

The Murrow Awards are considered to be one of the highest honors in broadcast journalism, and are presented annually by the RTDNA.

KCLU has won 37 Regional Murrow awards since 2007, as well as a National Edward R. Murrow Award in 2010.
