Prosecutors Say Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting Of Attempted Murder Suspect In Goleta Justified

Santa Barbara County prosecutors say the fatal officer involved shooting of a man wanted for attempted murder was justified.

Santa Barbara Police looking for Francisco Anthony Alcaraz Jr. served a search warrant at a Goleta apartment.

He was wanted in connection with two Santa Barbara shootings. Because he was considered armed and dangerous, a SWAT team was sent to serve the warrant.

Officers announced they were at the door, and after there was no answer, broke into the apartment. Alcaraz fired four shots at the officers. They returned fire, fatally wounding the 32 year old man.

Prosecutors reviewing the May, 2019 shooting say officers acted reasonably in returning fire to protect themselves, and that there was no time to use less lethal weapons to try to stop Alcarez.
