Details Released About Fatal Officer Involved Shooting On South Coast

New details have been released about a confrontation between a man armed with a knife and Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies which left the man dead.

The man is now being identified as Michael Johnson, of Thousand Oaks.

The confrontation happed early Wednesday morning, on Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks.

Johnson was driving a car which ran off the road. Deputies say when they responded to the reports of an accident Johnson confronted them with a knife. The deputies tried to subdue him with a beanbag gun, but when that failed and he kept advancing, they opened fire.

The 26 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers were uninjured. An investigation into the shooting is continuing.
