New Report Offers Vision Of Civilian Police Review System For City Of Santa Barbara

After recent protests and rallies for police reform brought about by the death of George Floyd, the City of Santa Barbara is considering adding a civilian police review system.

That system was part of a list of demands issues by Black Lives Matter SB, and it comes before the City Council for discussion and public comment on July 21.

Meanwhile, the City Attorney's Office has released a preliminary draft of a report on the proposal.

Withe research stretching back all the way to the 1920s, the public now has time to study the report and prepare comments.

Some of the key considerations for the civilian review board are independence, adequate resources, and community outreach and involvement.

The cost will not be factored into the current discussion, but will be considered at a later date.
