Central, South Coast Congressman Co-Author Of Law Enforcement Training, Policy Reform Package

A Santa Barbara congressman is co-sponsoring a proposed package of reforms for police training and practices.  Democratic Congressman Salud Carbajal is one of the backers of what’s called the Justice In Policing Act.  It’s a series of steps created in response to the death of George Floyd in Minnesota at the hands of police.

The legislation would ban racial and religious profiling by local, state, and federal law enforcement officers.  It would prohibit the use of chokeholds, and other similar holds.  And, local and state agencies would be required to report use of force data to a national database.

Also, the bill calls for establishment of a registry to insure law enforcement officers who are fired, or leave over misconduct can’t move to another agency unless the past actions have been addressed.
