Financial aid staff will assist students in accessing funds for college
Moorpark College, Oxnard College, Ventura College and Ventura College East Campus are holding free Cash 4 College workshops to help students apply for funds to help with college costs. Funds can be used for tuition, books, housing, transportation, childcare, computers and more.
In-person workshops are scheduled for Oct. 8 and 22. The workshops are free and open to the community; anyone may attend a workshop on either date and can drop in at any time during the events.
Bilingual financial aid staff will assist students in completing applications for the 2023-2024 school-year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). Students can also access information about basic needs support (food, clothing and housing assistance), tutoring, academic counseling, mental health services and other student services.
AB 132 now requires school districts to confirm seniors have completed the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application before graduating in 2023. Cash for College events can help students get ahead.

Chairs and easels will be provided; artists must bring their own supplies, paints not permitted. Note: this is not an instructional class. The fee for all three sessions is $50 for MVC members and students and $65 for non-members.
This is a great opportunity for artists of all skill levels to work from a live model to develop their life drawing skills. 10-35 participants per session.

Every Brilliant Thinng
What is Every Brilliant Thing?
Jonny Donahoe’s one-man show, Every Brilliant Thing, (which he co-wrote and originally performed) is one of the funniest and most heart-warming performances you will ever see about a boy growing up in the wake of his mother’s mental illness. The show has been performed more than six hundred times on four continents, including five months off-Broadway at the Barrow Street Theater.
Every Brilliant Thing has been replicated by dozens of comedians throughout the world, and HBO has even produced a documentary special about the performance. We are very fortunate to bring the co-creator and original performer of Every Brilliant Thing to Santa Barbara and are excited to share this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with our donors and community members for our next annual fundraiser.

Post-Roe: What Happens Now?
Post-Roe: What Happens Now? is the topic of an online Community Forum to be held on Friday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. to examine the impacts of the U.S. Supreme Court's June 24th ruling on abortion.
The high court ruled that women no longer have a constitutional right to abortion, overturning the historic Roe v. Wade decision that mandated federal abortion protections for 49 years. The high court's decision upholds a Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy and the ruling leaves it up to state legislatures to decide if and under what circumstances abortions will be permitted.
Nearly half of U.S. states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion. Other landmark decisions could also be at risk, including those that legalized same sex marriage and birth control, Supreme Court observers in the media have reported.
Three panelists involved with public policy advocacy will discuss topics including federal, California and around-the-country updates, disparate impacts, funds to support abortion access, and how to get involved.
The panelists are:
--Sandra Fluke, a public interest attorney. She is nationally known for her congressional testimony regarding birth control access under the Affordable Care Act. For two decades, she has worked in the nonprofit sector to advance social and economic justice.
--Tami Martin, Legislative Director of Equality California, where she works to advance the LGBTQ+ community's priorities in Sacramento through legislative, budget and administrative advocacy.
--Adrienne N. Spires-Sar, Reproductive Justice Manager with Black Women for Wellness. She has worked in the anti-gender-based violence field in California as a project coordinator for the last five years and has 20-plus years of nonprofit experience addressing violence, sexual assault and mental health.
The forum via Zoom is presented by Chalice Community Forum, a program of Chalice Unitarian Fellowship of the Conejo Valley. To register for a link to the free event, visit forum.chaliceuu.org. For information, contact Randall Edwards at forum@chaliceuu.org or through the church office at (805) 498-0548.
