A Message of Peace from the Eye of the Storm
Join the Ventura County Interfaith Community at 7:00 PM on February 26th as we host a trio of speakers from the Holy Land.
Ghadir Haney, a renowned and highly influential Muslim social activist, hails from the city of Acre.
Fr. Saba Haj is the leader of a 5,000-member Christian-Arab-Orthodox Church in the town of Iblin.
Rabbi Or Zohar serves as the Reform Rabbi of the Misgav region and also directs the Spirit of the Galilee Association (SOG).
The three individuals serve as representatives of the greater SOG’s inter-religious leadership group. Comprised of approximately 25 religious and community leaders from the Galilee region, these group members share a common vision of peace and equality between Arabs and Jews. Together, they actively initiate projects that bridge their respective communities. Through their partnership and collaborative efforts, they exemplify that “Peace in the Middle East” is not merely an unattainable dream, but a living reality embraced by numerous Arabs and Jews who reject the grip of hatred and violence, even amidst the tragic circumstances of today.
In a world marred by divisive discourse, polarization, and escalating international tensions, the message delivered by this delegation resonates far beyond the slopes of the Galilee region’s
mountains.
Our host for the evening will be Saint Columba’s Episcopal Church in Camarillo (1251 Las Posas Rd., Camarillo, 93010). The event is open to all, so feel free to invite friends and family that may be interested. The event is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
Fifty and Better's Spring Session: Profile of Ventura County Agriculture (Free Lecture)
Join Maureen McGuire, CEO of the Farm Bureau of Ventura County to learn how our local farmers navigate in this agriculturally rich region. Ventura County farmers cultivate an array of high-quality produce year-round. Water scarcity, labor costs, and the encroachment of urbanization pose challenges to our resilient farmers. Gain insights into the strategies and innovations Ventura County's farmers employ to address these hurdles. Maureen will discuss the delicate balance between development and preserving agricultural land, and the importance of sustainable growth.
Bio:
As of January 2022, Maureen Kelly McGuire has taken the chief executive officer position at the Farm Bureau of Ventura Country, vacated by John Krist upon his retirement. She holds a BA from Idaho State University, an MA from The New School University, and a Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering. With experience in Design-Build Engineering and Construction, Farm Labor Contracting, and Farming Operations she hopes to bring her multi-faceted background and growing perspective to continue the Farm Bureau of Ventura County’s long history of service and support of the agricultural industry.
The Fifty and Better (FAB) program was designed for people 50+ years of age, seeking intellectual stimulation through university level courses (without the pressure of grades) for the sake of learning and social engagement.
