Weaving Posters from Past to Present: UCSB Reads 2024 Drop-In Art Workshop at UCSB Library
UCSB Library invites you to join a drop-in art activity any time between 11:00am and 7:00pm. Please note, there will be a break from 4:00-5:00pm so participants can attend Kim Yasuda’s Pacific Views: Library Speaker Series talk "Public Art and Campus Placemaking: Recentering the Artist in Communities of Practice."
Visiting artist Elena Yu will lead this activity, which is presented in conjunction with the UCSB Reads 2024 book Your Brain on Art by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross. Participants will work with paper strips to create collaborative woven collages. The imagery on the strips is sourced from historic posters in the Library's California Ethnic & Multicultural Archives (CEMA). Additional, contemporary imagery, will be drawn from flyers and posters created by current UCSB student organizations.
The archival imagery will highlight important arts-based activism in California that emerged alongside the early histories of Ethnic Studies programs in California and at UCSB in the late 1960’s-1980s
The UCSB Arts Equity Commons Campus Artist in Residence is sponsored by a grant from the University of California Advancing Faculty Diversity Program.
Event is free and open to the public.

Free Webinar: Retooling Your Employee Handbook For 2024
Employment law firm LightGabler LLP is presenting a free employment law webinar for employers, “Handbook Time: Retooling Your Employee Handbook for 2024.” The webinar is Tuesday, February 27 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
A critical “to-do” for every California employer in 2024 is retooling their employee handbook to create a legally compliant and strategically written document. A retooled handbook is one of the greatest sources of protection against employee lawsuits. It is a fountain of information for supervisors on how to properly interact with subordinate employees, and helps meet the employer's obligations to provide notices and information to employees
In this webinar designed for employers, supervisors and human resource professionals, employment law attorney Ryan Haws will discuss new law changes for 2024, common handbook errors, when a handbook should be updated and translated and other handbook issues.
Reservations are required. Attendance is limited to no more than two logins per company. Login instructions will be provided upon registration and again via email the day before the webinar. To register, go to https://www.lightgablerlaw.com/seminars.
