  • In celebration of Ventura County's 150th Anniversary, Rancho Camulos Museum presents Ramona - the first movie filmed in Ventura County.

Come watch the first film made in Ventura County. Walk in the footsteps of D.W. Griffith and Mary Pickford. A presentation by film historians Hugh Munro Neely and Dydia DeLyster will follow the movie. An on location walking tour of key locations in the film will round out the program.
  • An eclectic program of three equally compelling works will be brought to life by three virtuosic chamber artists on Camerata Pacifica’s November program presented in four locations across Southern California, on Tuesday, November 7, 7:30 p.m., at The Huntington’s Rothenberg Hall in San Marino; Thursday, November 9, 8 p.m., at Zipper Hall in Downtown Los Angeles; Friday, November 10, 7:30 p.m., Hahn Hall at Santa Barbara’s Music Academy; and Sunday, November 12, 2023, 3 p.m., at Janet and Ray Scherr Forum in Thousand Oaks.

The program includes Ginastera’s fiery Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 49, a work rooted in Argentine folk music composed for his gifted cellist wife. It features Camerata Pacifica’s Principal Cello Ani Aznavoorian, whose “scorchingly committed performances…wring every last drop of emotion out of the music” (The Strad); and award-winning Principal Piano Irina Zahharenkova. Principal Clarinet Jose Franch-Ballester, a captivating performer of “poetic eloquence” (The New York Sun), is spotlighted in Brahms’ touching Clarinet Trio in A Minor, Op. 114, composed in 1891 and inspired by the musical prowess of one of the great clarinetists of the time.

Additionally, Franch-Ballester and Aznavoorian perform Paul Dean’s clever Suite for Clarinet and Cello, which the Australian composer says he wrote in 2019 for his “two favorite instruments.” He also notes that the first movement is “a tribute to one of my heroes... Sergei Prokofiev,” the second movement a “humble tribute to Gustav Holst,” and the final movement a fun and humorous tribute to “the world of Vaudeville.”

The program is part of the state-wide California Festival: A Celebration of New Music, a two-week event November 3-19, 2023, showcasing the most compelling and forward-looking voices from around the world in performances of new works written within the past five years. The initiative is a collaboration among more than 50 music institutions from across California with outreach support from the Association of California Symphony Orchestras (ACSO).

For Camerata Pacifica tickets ($75 at The Huntington, Hahn Hall and Zipper Hall; $80 at Janet and Ray Scherr Forum).

  • Santa Barbara Dentist to Reward Kids for Not Eating Candies During Halloween Event

Santa Barbara Dentist Dr. Michael Carley is holding a candy buy-back event at his office after Halloween.

Parents and kids who bring in their candy stash will get rewarded with $2 for every pound they bring!

Dr Carley, practicing dentistry for 15 years in Santa Barbara, has seen the harmful effects of excess sugar wreaking havoc on one’s health.

“This event will let parents turn trick or treating into a fun and healthy event and reward the child for making correct choices for his body!” Dr Carley said.

Earlier in October, Dr. Carley and his staff delivered over $9,000 worth of free dental treatments to local residents who could not afford dentistry during his Dentistry From The Heart Day.

Dr. Carley shared, “My team and I have always had a slogan: Treating people, not just teeth. Providing a free dental day aligns with our philosophy of taking care of people in need!”

The Halloween Candy Buy-Back Event will be held on:
    Date: November 1 to 7, 2023
Time: 8 am to 4 pm
Location: 2780 State St. #6 Santa Barbara, CA 93105

“Our community can get stronger if we reach out to our neighbors and help those who need it.” Dr Carley concluded.

  • Join us for Belles' on her 'Wildflower Country Tour' which began in Nashville and will end in her home town of Minneapolis, hitting a handful of routing cities in between including NAMBA in Ventura Saturday November 18 at 7pm. Laura Joy will open the show.

With stunning vocals and lyrics as rich as the soil of her native land Nebraska, Kelli Rachel Belles’ natural charisma and charm comes through her songs and straight to your heart. Belles’ lyrics tell stories of love, heartbreak and hardships with deep meaning and wit. Nashville industry folks have compared her songwriting to a young Dolly Parton, and a female Brad Paisley.
