Now in its 53rd year of Theatre for Youth, the Santa Monica Playhouse Diversity-in-Education Conservatory is delighted to offer a one-week Winter Break Theatre Camp for kids 6 to 14. Activities include theatre games, voice and movement, acting, imagination building, writing, costume creation, self-confidence, making friends and a LIVE, IN-PERSON PERFORMANCE on the last day.   • It’s the 8th Annual BFF Binge Fringe Festival of FREE Theatre, Oct 15 - Nov 19, the only FREE Fringe Festival in the nation, offering 38 in-person plays, workshops and family-oriented events thanks to generous grants from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission and Playhouse PALS. The BFF celebrates the range and depth of the human condition and the idea that theatre arts experiences are vital, transformative, and must be available for all.

    Celebrate Halloween with this captivating one-man show that invites audiences into the extraordinary world of a singer-songwriter who shies away from the limelight but basks in the euphoria of creative adventures. Meet the enigmatic protagonist, a multi-platinum songwriter and singer, contentedly concealed from the frenzy of fame -- preferring the human connections and chance encounters that exist in his artful dodger world. This intimate performance chronicles his journey of artistic liberation and self-discovery, skillfully interweaving tales of triumphs and travails. Harold has written songs for such diverse artists as Rod Stewart, Patti Labelle, Carlos Santana as well as longtime collaborator, Bobby Womack; and literally from Peter Paul & Mary to Snoop Dogg. He has also created customized songs for Regis Philbin, Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul), Kyle Cease (at the Dolby Theater) and the national Speakers Association conference.   • Parents can have an evening out, get a head start on holiday shopping or spend a quiet evening at home while their kids have fun under supervised care at the Yarrow Family YMCA, Friday, November 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Y’s Parents’ Night Out is open to YMCA members and nonmembers.

    Activities include games, arts & crafts, dance and basketball gym free play. All activities are monitored/led by YMCA staff. Kids must be age 4 or up and be able to use the restroom on their own.

    The cost is $23 per child for members and $33 per child for nonmembers. Fees include dinner, snacks, drinks and dessert.

  • Heart-warming holiday songs, laughs for all, and world-class tap-dancing are part of New Art City Theatre’s “Three Cheers for the Holidays,” on Friday, December 15 at the Scherr Forum Theatre in Thousand Oaks.

    Award-winning veterans of Broadway and London’s West End, David Burnham (Wicked, Light in the Piazza), Beverly Ward (Anastasia, Epic Proportions) and Kirby Ward (Show Boat, Crazy For You) perform their special brand of cheer for a holiday celebration for the whole family.

    A silent auction will precede the 7:30 p.m. performance to benefit the New Art City Theatre, a Ventura-based pioneering theatre company dedicated to the development of new theatrical works. True to its mission to promote new art, the show will include original works performed by local artists.

    Tickets are $49.99 per person for standard seating and $80 for VIP tickets, which includes pre-show and after-show activities. Student tickets are $20 (must be purchased at the box office).

  • In celebration of Ventura County's 150th Anniversary, Rancho Camulos Museum presents Ramona - the first movie filmed in Ventura County.

    Come watch the first film made in Ventura County. Walk in the footsteps of D.W. Griffith and Mary Pickford. A presentation by film historians Hugh Munro Neely and Dydia DeLyster will follow the movie. An on location walking tour of key locations in the film will round out the program.
