A student at a community college on the South Coast has organized a clothing pantry to help fellow students who are low-income and homeless.

Tiffany Love, who studies bioengineering at Santa Barbara City College, says she began collecting donations of gently used clothes to help needy students on campus.

“I have friends that are struggling on campus. They’re struggling with single parents and also struggling with being homeless. It’s just amazing how you’re coming to school everyday and still maintaining these perfect grades. I created something for them because they are my biggest motivation,” she says.

The clothing pantry has been dubbed “Tiffany’s Closet.” It’s open once a week, and it’s a place where students can pick up clothes for themselves and even for children.

“Happy that students were coming and taking advantage of this brand new resource, and it was empowering. It just felt very good to give back to my community and give back to my friends,” Love says.

She plans to expand the pantry to help homeless people beyond campus.
