Times may be difficult for the travel industry, but one airline is transforming travel from Santa Barbara.

Southwest Airlines is launching five new flights from the airport.

It’s described as a game-changer for Santa Barbara tourism, with SouthWest Airlines launching direct daily flights linking the airport to Las Vegas, Oakland, and Denver.

Kathy Janega-Dykes from Visit Santa Barbara says that it's important for leisure and also corporate business, once meetings and conferences are happening again - because it opens up a large network of cities across the country.

While it may seem an unlikely time to launch new routes, it’s a light on the horizon for Santa Barbara.

"The timing is unexpected but I can't think of a better time for us to receive positive news for our community," she told KCLU.

The new routes start in the Spring.
