Census workers have just started door-to-door efforts in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties to fill in the gaps in data in the region.
Teams are fanning out to gather basic information like how many people are living in a household, and their demographics.
They aren't asking for financial or personal information, like Social Security numbers. The workers carry federal identification, are wearing PPE bececause of coronavirus concerns, and will never ask to come inside of a home.
The information is vital for communities, because it's used by the federal government to make decisions about key issues like the amount of federal funding they will receive.
