Central, South Coast Food Bank Using Text System To Help People Find Closest Food Pickup Spots

A foodbank serving the Central and South Coasts is using technology to make it easier for people in need to find out where they can get free food close to them.

Foodbank of Santa Barbara County has launched a text program to link people to its SAFE food program locations.  There are 54 location in Santa Barbara County.

People can text the word “Food” to the program’s special phone number,  (877) 366-3801. It will ask the person texting for their zip code. Once the zip code is sent, the system will automatically text back the three closest food pickup points.

The service is free, but messaging rates may apply.

Santa Barbara County seniors can still call the 211 helpline to get free groceries delivered to them.
