Thousands of people had been displaced over the course of numerous recent disasters in the region.
Taking that into consideration, officials say that a possible future long-term emergency could challenge the area food supply.
The Food Bank of Santa Barbara is working now on what to do in that scenario, especially if an earthquake were to rupture the routes for food delivery.
They've revealed a dire need to find a solution.
Erik Talkin, the CEO of the Foodbank, says that while they have a food bank with a large warehouse in the north county, but the south county needs a new one.
Many other groups came together on Tuesday to see what systems are in place, what needs to be expanded, and what collaborations could work towards widespread food distribution.
That would put together a network of schools, community buildings and other locations during the long-term emergency.
The groups are also working on collaborations in Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Kern Counties, to backfill depending on where routes get broken off.
