Congressional Candidates Fareed, Carbajal Clash Over National and Regional Issues

In one of the most contested races for the House of Representatives, the two candidates vying for the 24th district clashed in a spirited debate Sunday.

Democrat Salud Carbajal and Republican Justin Fareed fielded questions from community members and a panel of journalists.

The district they aim to represent includes parts of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, along with a sliver of Ventura county.

The candidates clashed on national issues like Planned Parenthood, loyalty to their party's respective presidential candidates, Planned Parenthood and abortion issues.

They also squared off on issues with a more regional bend, including oil drilling, sexual assaults on college campuses, the environment, and the fate of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.
