Angel City FC is the first women’s professional soccer team in the Los Angeles area for 12 years.

The Angel City FC is training hard at its new permanent training base for the next two years, at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

No doubt they’re hoping the turf has captured some of the good luck charm of the LA Rams – who used this same training ground and became Super Bowl champions earlier this year.

Star player Christen Press – who has made over 155 appearances for the United States national team – says she’s excited to be part of the team training at the same spot as the Rams.

"I believe that a space holds energy so I'm happy to be in a championship training facility!"

Press said that after having limited or no fans at games during the pandemic, she's come to realize how important they are to the game.

"When I look into the stands now and see the fans, I couldn't be more grateful."

As well as star names on the pitch, as this is an LA team - there are plenty of star names backing the team.

"The team was started by Natalie Portman, the actress and activist," Angel City FC’s President Julie Uhrman told KCLU News.

"We wanted to build an organization where action and activism could co-exist," said Uhrman. "Where we could do good but also find a way to be profitable."

Their ownership group also includes Eva Longoria, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Garner, and a number of former members of the United States national team.

The club will play its home matches at the Banc of California Stadium – an exciting prospect, said the team’s coach Freya Coombe.

"Going out and playing our games not only at the Banc but also in another community is great so we get a chance to get out there and meet people.

"The first game at the Banc is going to be electric," she said.

The team – a national Women’s Soccer expansion team – play their first match later this month and are the first women’s professional soccer team in the Los Angeles area for 12 years.

And no doubt, Angel City are hoping they score with their new found fans.
