Cal Lutheran Plans In-Person Graduation Ceremonies

A South Coast university has announced plans to do drive-in, in person graduation ceremonies.

Cal Lutheran is planning events for its class of 2020, which wasn’t able to have an in-person event last year, as well as for the 2021 class.

The ceremonies won’t be at the university’s main Thousand Oaks campus.  They will use a special stage at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.  If health conditions permit, graduates will be able to walk across the stage as families watch from their cars.  If conditions don’t allow the use of the stage, photos of the graduates will appear on the stage’s four giant LED screens.

Last year, the same stage setup at the county fairgrounds was used for drive-in concert events, as well as drive-in movies to safely offer entertainment during the pandemic.  Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU Radio.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
