Man Disappears, Apparently Drowns In Central Coast Lake

A family outing to a lake on the Central Coast has ended in tragedy. The group was at Lopez Lake Sunday afternoon when one of them were in distress while swimming.

David Sanchez of Grover Beach tried to help. His efforts helped the person in distress to get to safety, but Sanchez himself disappeared.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Search and Recover Team was called out to help.  Search efforts were unsuccessful Sunday and Monday, but Tuesday afternoon divers recovered the body of the 39-year-old man in about 50 feet of water.

An autopsy is planned.
