Ventura County Man Facing Charges For Hit And Run Death Of Bicyclist

A Ventura County man is facing multiple charges for the hit and run death of a bicyclist.

John Romero was riding a bicycle in a bike lane on Ventura Road in Port Hueneme early Wednesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle.  The 40 year old Port Hueneme man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Port Hueneme Police say Anthonia Macias of Oxnard was driving the vehicle.  They say the 28 year old man initially fled the scene, but then returned to speak to police.

Officers say they determined Macias had been drinking.   He was arrested, and has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit and run resulting in death.
