Santa Ana Winds Create Elevated Wildfire Danger For Ventura, Los Angeles Counties

First it was the heat, and now it’s the wind causing wildfire concerns on the South Coast.  Santa Ana wind conditions in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties are increasing the brush fire danger in the region.

There’s a Red Flag Warning in effect for mountain areas of the two counties now though 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The wind is also expected to pick up along the coast early Wednesday morning, prompting a Red Flag Warning for coastal areas of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties from 3 a.m. until 8 p.m.  Wind in the 35 to 55 mile an hour range is predicted.

Southern California Edison officials say public safety power shutoffs are possible for some mostly rural areas of Ventura County.  About nine thousand Edison customers have been warned of the possibility.

The potentially impacted areas are outside of Camarillo, Moorpark, Santa Paula and Fillmore, as well as a slice of the coast along the Ventura-Los Angeles County line.
