A new memorial in Santa Barbara has been dedicated to the 34 people who died in a fire on the excursion boat "Conception" in September of 2019

It was a difficult day for some in Santa Barbara Wednesday, as a memorial was dedicated to the 34 people who died a year ago in a tragic dive boat fire in the Channel Islands.

A plaque with the victims names was unveiled at Santa Barbara Harbor.  Some of the relatives of those who died as well as some of the first responders involved in rescue efforts were on hand for the ceremony.

The Conception caught on fire early in the morning of September 2nd, 2019 off of Santa Cruz Island.  All 33 passengers and one crew member were trapped below deck, and died in the blaze.  Five crew members survived the inferno.

The cause of the fire has been under investigation, but federal officials say they plan to release details on their findings during the next few weeks.
