Central Coast Hospital Gets Major Gift For Expansion Project

A Central Coast hospital has received a multi-million dollar gift towards a major expansion project, which includes adding more than 60 beds and a neonatal intensive care unit.

French Hospital Medical Center received an anonymous $2.5 million dollar gift for its “Beyond Health” campaign.

The San Luis Obispo hospital would direct that money toward adding a four story, 85,000 square foot wing, with 56 new private patient rooms.  The plan also calls for expanding the number of intensive care unit beds from 11 to 21.

Other additions would include a 16 room neonatal intensive care unit, a robotic surgery program, a new hospital entrance and a helicopter landing pad.

The $2.5 million dollar gift means that $13 million has now been raised towards a $30 million dollar goal.  Dignity Health, which owns the hospital, has announced it will invest an additional $100 million dollars in the expansion.
