Key Review Set For Long Planned New Fire Station On South Coast

The California Coastal Commission is set to review plans for a long sought new fire station on the South Coast.  The City of Goleta wants to build a new 11,000 square foot facility on the 7900 block of Hollister Avenue.  The station would allow for improved coverage of the city’s west side.

City officials say that current coverage from other stations doesn’t meet national guidelines for acceptable response time.

The City approved the project in 2018, but because the property is in the coastal zone, the state agency has to sign off on it before construction can start.  The Commission will review the proposal September 10th.

The three-bay fire station would have accommodations for three person crews around the clock.
