There’s a brush fire burning in the Channel Islands.  The blaze was discovered at about 10:30 Sunday morning in the Scorpion Valley area of Santa Cruz Island.  The blaze quickly grew to around 60 acres.

20 Los Padres National Forest firefighters were sent to the battle the blaze.  Air tankers and a Santa Barbara County helicopter have been helping to fight the fire.

National Park Service officials say because of the remote, rugged nature of the area, full containment will be difficult.  There aren’t a lot of structures on the island, but there’s no word of any of them being damaged.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
