Santa Barbara Police Chief Condemns Officer Involved Incident Which Left Minneapolis Man Dead
The death of an African American man at the hands of Minneapolis Police has prompted protests around the country, some of which have turned violent.
Santa Barbara Police Chief Lori Luhnow issued a statement condemning the death of George Floyd. She says she is deeply disturbed by the death, which she called preventable.
Luhnow says that historically, law enforcement agencies have contributed to the marginalization of some groups, like African Americans. She says it’s the responsibility of law enforcement leaders to make sure that doesn’t happen.
The Chief says officers have a duty to uphold the law in a way which protects the community with humanity, empathy, and fairness.
