Chumash Resort Extending Closure Due To Coronavirus Pandemic; Most Workers To Face Layoffs

The growing coronavirus crisis has prompted the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians to extend its shutdown of the Chumash Casino Resort.

The casino in the Santa Ynez Vallery originally closed March 15th.  The shutdown has now been extended for at least another 30 days.

The tribe has been paying its workers, but officials say they are now going to have to lay off most of their employees in coming weeks.

In addition to the casino shutdown, the tribe has closed its hotels at the resort and in Solvang, as well as its restaurants and wine tasting room.
