Cal Lutheran Part of New AmeriCorps Effort In California

A Ventura County based university is part of a new program intended to help students pay for college through work in public service programs. Cal Lutheran is one of eight colleges partnering with the State of California to participate in the AmeriCorps program.

Participating Cal Lutheran students will serve as mentors and tutors for immigrant and low-income youth in the county. The goal is to help improve the success rate of at-risk youth.

Plans call for an initial 25 slots in the program, with students receiving up to $10,000 in state and federal scholarship money after completing their fellowships.

Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU.
