A man caused thousands of dollars in damage in a South Coast store Wednesday.

Authorities say a  South Coast man went on a rampage at a convenience store, causing thousands of dollars in damage. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s officers say Ghazi Elayyan went into a 7-11 store on Calle Real in Goleta Wednesday. Employees say he made some incoherent statements. They say Elayyan then started throwing glass bottles to the floor, and dumped the contents of shelves onto the ground.

There were no customers in the store, but frightened employees locked themselves in an office and called 911.

The 27 year old Isla Vista man was taken into custody without incident on a vandalism charge. Deputies say he will undergo a mental health evaluation.
