Inmate At South Coast Jail Dies

An inmate at a South Coast jail has died. Ventura County Sheriff’s officials say deputies checking up on Robert Raymond Bustamante found him unresponsive in his cell at the county’s pre-Trial Detention facility Sunday morning.

Deputies and jail medical staff started efforts to revive him, while firefighters and other emergency personnel responded.

But, the 51 year old Oxnard man was pronounced dead about a half hour later. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.
