Ventura County Supervisors Move Towards Rejecting Controversial Oil And Gas Project Expansion Plans

Ventura County Supervisors are moving towards denial of a controversial plan to expand a small oil and gas facility. Renaissance Petroleum has an oil and gas well plus support facilities off Etting Road east of Oxnard. The company wanted to renew the permit for its existing facilities, and add four additional oil and gas wells to the property.

The County Planning Commission approved the proposal. However, opponents contended the project could create environmental problems for residents in the area, and that it was a bad fit.

They appealed the Planning Commission’s decision to county supervisors. Dozens of people testified during a five hour long hearing Tuesday.

On a 3-2 vote, supervisors started the process of rejecting the expansion, citing numerous environmental concerns. They are expected to take a final vote on the issue September 24th.
