Man Accused Of Two Random Assaults On Elderly People In Ventura County Won't Face Murder Charge

A man accused of randomly attacking two elderly people on the streets of a Ventura County community won’t be facing a murder charge for one of the victims who died. Prosecutors say in two separate incidents, Adam Barcenas punched and kicked a man and a woman on the streets of Oxnard April 13th. One of the victims, 71 year old Armida Castro, died a week after the attack.

But, Castro had a number of major pre-existing medical issues. Prosecutors say they can’t prove that the assault caused the woman’s death, so Barcenas won’t face a homicide charge. But, the 56 year old Oxnard man is facing two counts of elder abuse, and one count of resisting arrest.
