Woman Hurt In Series Of Random Attacks On Elderly South Coast Residents Dies

An elderly woman who was one of two people randomly attacked by a man on the South Coast died days later, and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office is calling her death a homicide. On April 13th, Armida Castro was getting into her car near Sixth and A Streets in Oxnard when she was punched in the head, knocked to the ground, and kicked.

The 71 year old woman originally declined medical treatment. She was taken to the hospital later than day, and spent six days there. After being released, she returned to the hospital April 21st, and died that day.

Adam Barcenas was arrested on the 13th for the attack on Castro, and for another attack on an elderly man in the same area a few minutes later. The 56 year old man was charged with elder abuse, battery, and a parole violation. Barcenas hasn’t been charged at this point for Castro’s death.
