Rabies Discovered With Bat At Santa Barbara Zoo, But Case Appears To Be Isolated

A bat with rabies has been found at a South Coast zoo, but officials say there is no threat to the zoo’s animals or to the public.

The bat was found in the Santa Barbara Zoo’s giraffe barn. The giraffes are quarantined, but they are still on public display.

Staff members working with them will have to be vaccinated. Zoo officials say they are checking to insure that all animals which are susceptible to rabies have up to date precautionary vaccinations.
