Rabies Discovered In Bat Prompts Warning On Central Coast

The discovery of a bat with rabies in Santa Barbara County has prompted a call for pet owners to insure their animals are vaccinated against the disease.

The bat was discovered in Lompoc.

Santa Barbara County Animal Services officials say rabies can be transmitted to a pet if a rabid wild animal like a bat or skunk bites it. It’s rare for humans to get it, but it can be fatal if untreated.
